Thinking Ahead Together on Plastic Recycling

On May 27, 2026, the annual general meeting of the Association of Swiss Plastic Recyclers (VSPR) was held at OST – University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland in Rapperswil. The event focused on current developments in plastics recycling, new challenges facing the industry, and a joint discussion on the further development of the circular economy in Switzerland.

Exchange and new perspectives

The general meeting provided members, partners, and industry experts with a valuable platform for professional exchange. In addition to the statutory agenda items, the focus was particularly on current issues across the entire plastics recycling value chain. Once again, it became clear how important close cooperation between industry, research, government, and politics is for a functioning circular economy.

Specialized presentations offering valuable insights

Following the official proceedings, participants were treated to a diverse program of expert presentations featuring fascinating talks from the fields of research, administration, professional practice, and sustainability analysis:

  • Prof. Dr. André Bardow (ETH Zurich) discussed current scientific perspectives and developments in the field of the circular economy and plastics recycling.
  • Matthias Bendig (Swiss Federal Office of Energy, SFOE) highlighted current challenges and opportunities at the intersection of recycling and energy.
  • Michael Gasser (SPPR) and Michael Gressmann (VKR) presented practical insights and the latest developments in the construction industry.
  • Dr. Esther Thiébaud (dss+) presented the latest analyses and findings on sustainability and material flows in plastics recycling.

Conversation over drinks

During the reception that followed, discussions continued and new connections were made. The general meeting demonstrated once again that Swiss plastics recyclers are working together toward a resource-efficient and sustainable circular economy.

A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers, members, and participants for their dedication and the valuable exchange of ideas.
