Appenzell IR introduces plastic collection

Responsible use of plastic

Responsibility for the future

Plastic is everywhere in our lives - be it in households or in trade and industry - and is therefore an attractive material for a wide variety of products and applications. In the wrong place, however, it can also pollute the environment - this must be avoided.

Plastic as a valuable raw material

Valuable raw material

However, plastics are also valuable raw materials that are too valuable to be destroyed or incinerated. Plastic products must be kept in the cycle. This saves resources, primary raw materials and energy. Recycled plastic, for example, requires only half as much energy as the production of new plastic.

Sustainability Agenda 2030

By promoting plastics recycling in Switzerland, the association and its members are making a valuable contribution to a sustainable future - for our country and for our planet. We are therefore guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda to achieve various of the 17 sustainability goals.

17 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

17 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Making cities and settlements safe, resilient and sustainable.

17 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

17 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 13: Climate protection measures

Take immediate action to combat climate change and its effects.

17 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 14: Life under water

Conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Reducing emissions thanks to plastic recycling

Reduction of emissions

Plastic recycling also plays a very important role in reducing CO2 emissions. For every kg of plastic recycled, up to 3 liters of crude oil are saved and as the plastic is not incinerated, around 2.8 kg of CO2 per kg of plastic is avoided.
