Appenzell IR introduces plastic collection

Recycling and reusing expanded polystyrene

Styrofoam as a raw material

Expanded polystyrene (EPS), also better known as Styrofoam, is a versatile insulating or protective material that is widely used in the construction and packaging industry and is 100% recyclable. It is therefore important that packaging waste from households or even construction site waste is collected and processed.

Regranulate from plastic waste

100% recyclable

As a secondary raw material, expandiertes poystyrol has an 80 percent lower CO2 footprint than conventional insulation materials. The addition of recycled raw material reduces the use of fossil raw materials.

Recycling conserves finite resources and reduces the need for new plastics. Thanks to recycled insulation material, insulating buildings makes even more sense. Every kilo of recycled expandiertes poystyrol saves around 3 liters of oil.

Collecting and recycling polystyrene

Our member "epsSwiss Association" is the industry association of the leading Swiss manufacturers of polystyrene (swisspor Group, Alporit AG, Baukork AG, wannerit AG, swisspor Romandie SA, Gonon Isolation AG and Sager AG).

Certified polystyrene collection bags

1'100 tons

In 2023, "epsSwiss" collected around 1,100 tons of polystyrene and recycled it in Switzerland. The VSPR-certified collection bags can be ordered via the online store.
