Starting signal for national pipe recycling
With the Swiss Plastic Pipe Recycling (SPPR) project, the Association of Swiss Plastic Recyclers (VSPR) and the Association of Plastic Pipes and Pipe Components (VKR) are jointly sending out a clear signal for the circular economy in Switzerland. The aim of the project is to consistently return plastic pipes from construction, building technology and dismantling to the recycling loop.
Large quantities of plastic pipes are used in Switzerland - around 85,000 tons per year. Many of these are ideal for high-quality recycling. Until now, however, there has been no nationwide take-back system. This is precisely where SPPR comes in: With a Switzerland-wide network of return points, clearly defined quality standards and close cooperation along the entire value chain.
Over 40 collection points
More than 40 collection points already accept defined, unmixed and clean pipe types - and the number is constantly increasing.
Broad industry partnership
The project is supported by leading companies from the construction, plastics processing, building technology, recycling and retail sectors - including the Burkhalter Group, Debrunner Acifer, Eberhard, HakaGerodur, InnoRecycling, MCAM Symalit, Meier Tobler, Geberit and Georg Fischer.
Pipes that are dismantled today can serve as a high-quality source of recyclate - an alternative to packaging plastics, which are to be increasingly returned to the packaging cycle in future. In this way, SPPR not only strengthens the market for Swiss recyclates, but also makes a tangible contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and conserving primary resources.
